Frequently Asked Questions
-
What is Paediatric Occupational Therapy?Great Question! More people than not, find it hard to understand the purpose and explanation for Occupational Therapy. visit our Home page for an overview of what Occupational Therapy is and how it may benefit you!
-
How do I start Occupational Therapy services?Contact our team to find an appropriate timeslot that works for you or your child. Once paperwork is filled out and completed correctly, the therapist will contact you to advise of what to expect during your first (initial) session. The initial session is generally an information gathering session where the therapist will ask the parent/carer a number of questions to gather relevant and important information as well as interact with the child to build rapport. Following the initial session, the therapist will develop a therapy plan which will be discussed with the parent/carer in the following session. Changes and adjustments can be made based on specific concerns or priorities from the family/supports of the child.
-
Which children might benefit from occupational therapy?Children with developmental delays, autism, sensory processing disorders, ADHD, physical disabilities, and learning disabilities, among other conditions could find it beneficial to participate in Occupational Therapy in conjunction with alternate therapies!
-
How long are therapy sessions? At MR OT we offer either 45-minute long or 60-minute long therapy sessions. Both durations include 15-minutes of preparation, clean-up and documentation time.
-
How do cancellations work?At MR OT we follow a 48 hours/ 2-business days cancellation policy. If a session is cancelled with less than 48-hours notice, the session is billed at 100% of the charge to cover the cost of an irreplaceable therapy time slot. Occasionally some exceptions can be made dependent on circumstances and to the discretion of the therapist and organisation. You can contact us via email, text or phonecall (ie. voicemail if you can not get through) to advise of any cancellations you would like to make.
-
What if the session goes longer than the booked time?At MR OT we reserve the right to bill for the time where support is provided to the client. It is up to the discretion of the therapist whether they will bill for the addition time spent with the client during any given session.

How much do assessments cost?Assessment pricing varies depending on the type of assessments being completed. For a functional assessment, there is a general charge of 6-hours worth of the NDIS hourly rate (ie. this includes a 1-hour face to face component). -
Do I have to be present with my child in sessions? At MR OT we understand that every child requires their own unique approach to maximise their engagement in therapy activities and tasks. Some children benefit from having their carers/parents present in sessions, some children attend to tasks better on their own in sessions. The ideal approach for your child will be discussed with your therapist once your therapy journey begins!
-
Can I leave the house if my child is in a session with a therapist? It is within our policy at MR OT that a parent/ carer is readily available and on site at all times when a child is participating in a therapy session. This is for safety reasons and in the case of emergencies.
-
Do I have to complete any activities at home after therapy sessions? This is a good question and a very important one! We at MR OT like to emphasis the importance of continuing to practise skills at home that are being practised in therapy sessions. Consistency is key to improvements and muscle memory. Strategies for how to implement therapy tasks in your home environment can be discussed with your therapist at any point during your allocated therapy spot.
-
How long will my child need occupational therapy?Every child is unique! The duration varies depending on the child's individual needs and progress. Some children may need therapy for a few months, while others may require longer-term support.
